What is Jennifer’s Philosophy?

Jennifer McCarthy’s philosophy is that each dog and owner requires their own unique plan whether it be for training or behavior concerns. While she may use many of the same techniques with each client, it is never a one-size-fits-all approach. Jennifer focuses on understanding the psychology behind your dog’s behavior so that she can help you get to the root of the problem and not just address the symptoms. In comparison with other trainers, she teaches you topics beyond traditional training and dog behavior. For Jennifer, training embraces the importance of emotional balance (yes, dogs have emotions too!), physical strength, health, vitality and the art of mastering leadership.

Jennifer has a background in so many different training techniques and likes to find the right approach that will fit the needs of you and your dog to help achieve your goals. In every case, the dog’s health and well-being come first. She believes in honesty, integrity and the overall well-being of you and your pet.

Jennifer will guide you to the top of the dog pack. She will show you how to help your dog conquer and reduce its fears and find solutions to your everyday problems. You will learn how to face aggression head-on to give you the power and courage to begin a new life with your pet. You will also learn how to influence good behaviors. Jennifer will discuss your dog’s history, environment and goals that you want to achieve. Much of what she does is communicate these needs between owner and dog. She is an educator, consoler, therapist, friend, doggie life-coach and sometimes protector.

Throughout the training journey, you will see there are no short cuts to her training. That’s the primary reason why she has such a high success rate. She is not your average dog trainer or behaviorist.

Jennifer’s philosophy is based on years of studying animal and human psychology. She has a long history of competing in obedience and Schutzhund, training working dogs for celebrities, international security firms and private instruction from internationally known judges, authors, trainers and behaviorists. She also pulls from her vast experience working with wolves and horses. Prepare for an exciting journey into the mind of your dog.

Why do I have to fill out a questionnaire?

Before your first session, you will be asked to fill out an in-depth, multi-part questionnaire about your dog’s behavior, characteristics, lifestyle, etc. It can take roughly 15-20 minutes to complete. The reason for this is to save you time and money so that Jennifer won’t have to ask you any of these questions and can come prepared with a good understanding of your situation prior to your first appointment. This will greatly help her understand the background of your dog in the initial consultation.
