Today was feeding day at Mission: Wolf. The cow from yesterday was cut up this morning into pieces and placed into buckets. Each bucket is weighed to accurately determine the amount the wolves are given to eat. The fresh meat was placed into several buckets...
All the buckets were labeled with each wolves name and transported by wheelbarrow to each enclosure. Myself and the other volunteers wore plastic gloves and proceeded to throw the meat over each enclosure fence line. The wolves inhaled the meat as if they've never eaten a meal in their lives. If you want to know where the term "wolfing it down" comes from, this is the reason why.
The wolves rarely argued over who's meat was who's, but when they do challenge each other, it's done quickly and usually without injury. After feeding time, the wolves were relaxed just like we are after a big Thanksgiving turkey dinner.
Daisy is still pacing inside her enclosure next to the dogs. She can't really figure out what she's supposed to be in life. After the dog's that look like wolves leave, she will probably adapt more quickly to have another wolf besides her and hopefully will take on a mate.
I went on two tours again today of the facility and the last tour I gave by myself. The tour that I gave was a success on what little knowledge I was able to consume over the past 48 hours. People seem very interested in talking about dogs even at a place where wolves are the main attraction. It's cold tonight as a big storm has moved in and may even bring snow! Right now, it's raining, wet and miserable but my tent seems to be the best investment yet.
Me and Sabertooth
Orion
Soliel
Tonight I'm going to bed early to start the day tomorrow. I spent some time with Maggie again today and took some visitors in to see the adolescent wolves Soliel and Orion. From a wet, cold night in the mountains...Good Night All! Jennifer
