Mission: Wolf Headquarters

Every morning when I wake up, there's always something new and exciting. This morning, it was another foot of snow and it snowed the rest of the day...

The next surprise was that I found mouse droppings all over the inside of my car. I went to get my food for breakfast and a mouse chewed through my bag of whole wheat falafels. I was very upset, but, the good news is that I had someone help me set up a mouse trap and tonight we caught him! At least I hope it's him and not one of his friends. In case you didn't know, up here in the mountains, there are a lot of mice. They will chew through your tent for food, or even find a way into your car. It's a big problem! The mice that are caught are tossed over the fence into the wolves enclosures for a snack. Yum right?! But it's what they would do in the wild and probably still do here. I'm glad the mouse was caught because I wasn't intending on carpooling them to Aspen.

Today was difficult to spend quality time with the wolves because of the snow. I did spend some time with Soliel and Orion and observed the pack of 3 and Maggie. Tomorrow I will be seeing some new wolves in their enclosures. I helped out again in the new building and got into some deep conversations with people about animals. Some of the people I've met are a zoologist from England, and a guy who lived in a tent for a year up in Oregon. Everyone is very nice here and it is interesting to be able to talk with different people in different fields.

I also took the dogs for a long walk and worked Rocky on the leash. He should have no trouble finding a new home in Aspen. It's very stressful on the wolves to have dogs around that bark, etc. So I think when Rocky leaves, it will be much easier for the staff to handle. It's about 30 degrees in my tent right now and my water bottle has nothing but ice in it. I can't wait for a hot shower and a warm bed to sleep in. Hoefully the roads will be cleared by Monday.

More Snow!

Good Night from the freezing cold and be happy to have a warm home, wherever you are...
All my best, Jennifer
